Keep walking down this sandy path. In just a moment you will top the dunes for a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. It's the perfect day to spend on a Pacific Northwest beach.
Riff is a surveyor, which sometimes calls for a bit of exploring on a Saturday. Such was the case a few weekends ago. He had to go up to the North Beach area of Washington to "shoot a few points". (That's surveyor talk for whatever it is they do with those big yellow tripods.) I was happy to toss a beach blanket and good book in a bag and tag along.
We walked through the dunes to the beach where Riff left me to go get his work done and I found a soft bit of sand to enjoy the kite festival that was going on. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, the kind that are sometimes few and far between here the land of grey skies and an absolute delight to find a kite festival in progress. I didn't get much reading done, but take a look at all the great sights that met my eyes.
I hope you enjoyed a peek at one of our Northwest Beaches. Come back when you can. We'll make a pot of chowder...
Stop by Jenny's place for more Alphabe-Thursday!

I would love to have been there watching the kites with you. How lovely to live close to the sea :)
There's nothing better than the beaches of the Northwest! In fact, we may be heading to the beach this weekend - hope it works out.

What amazing kites! I love the shark.
Love those kites! They always bring about an 'OOooo' don't they!
Wow! I love the kites! Thanks for a glimpse of the Northwest Beaches!
Beautiful photos, but none prettier than your blog header!
I'm your newest follower.
I remember the water being very cold. Something I would surely invite right now. It looks like a lovely way to tag along.
I've heard the kite festival up at Long Beach is fabulous. In Crescent City, CA, there is a gentleman that sells nice beach kites and it is fantastic to see them flutter all over in the breeze/wind. Crescent City is a lot closer to me here in S. Oregon.
It's been too long since I've been to the beach, I'll have to get over there soon.
Lovely, lovely pictures.
That must have been a wonderful site in person!!
That is so cool that you got to see the kite festival on a working trip!!!!
You got some awesome pictures. I could just imagine sitting with you on the beach gazing up at the beuatiful kites.
Oh wow! gorgeous! I have been to some beaches in the Northwest on vacation. The coast is so lovely!
Astoria is one of my favorite places to visit and we've had several holidays on the nearby beaches. You live in a beautiful place, and I enjoyed the beach activity in today's post.
Awesome sights!~Ames
What a FUN day on a Pacific NW beach! I was in Astoria for a few days early 2010, but did not get to the beach.
Oh wow ... what a great day! Thanks for sharing what you captured.
Oh you really did choose the perfect day for a tag a long to sit and enjoy the beach. Beautiful photos! We are headed to the Oregon Coast for my first time in late August. I'm looking forward to seeing spots along the way to our destination like Astoria where I think we'll stop at Fort George Brewery. :0)
Wow! I love the kites and and other sites ...that you shared!
Blessings & Aloha!
...having fun catching up on some blog reading! If you get a chance to stop by...please leave a comment so that I know you were there :o)
Ahhhhhhh, we need to get over there this summer...
Oh what fun-the kites and horses are so pretty!
Oh wow! Such nifty beaches! I love the way you walk over the dunes and then have to stand their, stunned, at the gorgeous views!
Thanks for this lovely link!
A+
Kites above the beach - what a sweet surprise! I loved the picture of the kites above Riff! Makes me ponder all of the amazing things around us as we trudge along . . .
Thanks for sharing these wonderful sights, Paula!
Being an East Coaster who lived in Brookings for a while (Coast Guard), your post brought back some good memories. People here look at me funny if I tell them I used to go to the beach and never think of going in the water (too cold). we had too much fun having bonfires with the driftwood the past winter storms left us. People on the (north)west coast go to the beach for the view, the breeze, and generally goofing off.
I love windy days at the beach! A nice picnic, some treasure hunting and kite flying! Sigh....just so wonderful!
