A very stormy weekend has just passed, with another storm on the way. I believe we recieved 3 inches of rain on Sunday with high winds. Trees were down all over the place Monday morning, roads were flooded and mudslides had closed a few roads. Yesterday on the way home from work, there was a small car in the ditch (volkswagan rabbit maybe) and the water in the ditch was up to the windshield. BIG BIG puddle (lake!) on the road right there, so they probably hit that water and hydroplaned right into the ditch!
We finished our kitchen floor this weekend. Tore up the old nasty linoleum that was in there, put down 1/4" plywood for a leveling agent and installed black and white vinyl tile in a checkerboard pattern. We have done our kitchen in a "retro" style and the floor really adds to that and looks great. Will be adding a black counter top and white porcelain farmhouse sink in the future.
Went to the movie "Walk the Line" about Johnny and June Carter Cash. Very good movie, I recommend it. It played at the Columbia Theatre, which is my favorite movie theatre ever! It is the old Opera house in Astoria. The balcony now has a bar in it and they serve beer and wine. Most of the seating is couches with small tables in front of them. The main floor has some couches also. The theatre is attached to the "VooDoo Room", which is a bar that serves pizza and burgers, so you can order food in the theatre also. Very cool!!!
I finished the book "A Safe Place: the true story of a father, a son and a murder" by Lorenzo Carcaterra this past weekend also. A true story about the authors childhood and trying to come to terms with the fact that his father had murdered his first wife. Set in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. Not a "feel good" story by any means, but a very good read. Very intense and fast-paced. This book preceeds "Sleepers", which is also a true story about the authors childhood and was made into a movie a few years ago starring Brad Pitt, I think. I recommend both.
Next storms on the way...looks like we're in for another rainy night ( - :
