Almost there...

After knitting to many darn scarves to count, I am working on my first real knitting project. I signed up several weeks ago for the hat hugger class at Creative Beginnings. I went to my first class last Thursday night full of trepidation. It's one thing to cast on, knit 500 or so rows and bind off and it's quite another thing to learn to purl and use 4 double ended needles at the same time. The old doubts crept in - I don't know if I can do this, I'm not smart enough, I'm not coordinated enough, my project will look like a 2nd grader did it, THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT ME! I pushed the negative thoughts away and joined the class, a self-concious smile on my face. I did find that my fingers weren't as cooperative as the should have been when I was learning to purl, but after a little while they did start to work correctly. My project actually looks good and nobody laughed at me. I had fun! Who knew??
Tonight was the second portion of that class. Things went a bit differently for me tonight, not at all what I had planned. Apparently I forgot how to count and spent most of the evening taking out the same row over and over again until I finally got it right. Good Grief! I guess that backing out was good experience, I definately know how to do that now. I had grand illusions of my hat being finished tonight. That bubble has burst.
Tomorrows another day...

It looks great! Scarves are great, but once you start knitting other things you'll be so glad you did. There's a whole new world out there! (And you can always go back and knit a scarf when you need a mindless project.) Good luck!

(((Clapping hands))) Yeah..good for you to try something out of your comfort zone. You will get the hang of it with practice. I'm not speaking from experience though on the knitting scene (I still have a scarf about 5 inches long sitting lonely in a box waiting to be finished from last Christmas when I got first pair of needles)...LOL The color is lovely and your right, tomorrow is another day. Enjoy the peace knitting/creating does bring.

Oh my goodness, Paula. Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back. I'm so like you, I've wanted to join a class for ages but I was afraid I'd be embarrassed. I crochet like a fool but I'm so awkward with knitting.

I used my 40% off coupon at Michael's to buy a normally expensive "teach yourself to knit" book. That's my one huge goal for this winter. So I admire you for going to a class.

Good for you! And you should just realize that everyone else there is probably as unsure of their talent as you are. Why on earth else would they be in the class?

I say, more power to you. Good decision! And it sounds like you might accidentally enjoy it! :-) I know for sure you'll make new friends. And that's always a blessing.
