Spring Snow

As I was looking at my spring snow pictures from this past week, this little ditty popped into my head ~
"It's springtime in the Rockies
and I'm full of mountain dew;
Can't even read my catalog's
the way I used to do..."
My Mom used to sing that quite often and there it was - bumping around in my pea-brain after all these years. I don't really even know...is it a part of a song, a poem maybe? Does anybody know?

My sister and niece, Stacey and Dawn, were here visiting this week and we talked about sayings and songs that we remembered from when we were kids. In the days when it was okay to carry your kids around in the back of the old pickup truck, we would sit back there and sing songs over and over again. Turns out that Stacey still remembers all the words to "One Tin Soldier" and I have "Seasons in the Sun" down. Neither one of us can remember much of "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" or "Wildfire". I think it was our older sister, Susan, who decided on our song choices, so maybe she remembers the other lyrics? Do you? And who sang "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" anyway? Anybody?

May you be blessed with old songs popping into your head today...Sit around the table and sing them with your sisters. You'll be glad you did!

I remember riding in the back of trucks and singing too! I love the old songs and it is so neat when something triggers your mind back to that time. I have never heard the ones you mentioned. I'll have to see if I can find them to hear.

I think Billy Don't Be a Hero was by ABBA. Oh the memory you inspired! I remember singing that song with a friend as ten year olds, and having actions for the words, and singing in unison. I guess we were doing a lip sync act before that became the rage.

Sing with your sister! One evening on a drive up to a wedding shower event with my future husband, my sister and I tried to recall and sing all our songs from Guides. We sang for an hour! and he still married me.

Billy Don't Be a Hero always made me cry.. What memories indeed!

It's almost like magic when when sounds of times long ago are triggered.

Google tells me that Billy, Don't be a Hero was recorded by Paper Lace.

I remember riding on the hay wagon and in the back of pickup trucks. I owned a pickup when my daughter was 14 and all of her friends loved riding in the back.

You brought back some memories with the song titles you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Mary

Springtime in the Rockies was a song, but I searched for it and can't seem to find any results for the one I remember. Maybe it had a different name? Here are some more of the words I remember for that one:
The moon is bright
And I'm half tight
The night is just beginin'
So put them hounds back in that pen
And quit yer silly grinnin'

My old brain is having trouble pulling up more than the main chorus of Billy Don't be a Hero, but I think I can come up with most of Wildfire, which was sung by Michael Martin Murphy.

Hey, that sure is a cute wood sprite sitting in the hollow of the tree! I hear they are rather elusive to photograph, you must have been pretty sneaky, Paula!
I am glad you guys had such a good time together. Did you sing at the top of your lungs for the benefit of your own kids? Just so they would know how it should be done!!!

I remember bits and pieces of some of those songs - but Billy Don't Be a Hero is one I don't recollect at all.

Lovely!!! These songs are not very familiar to me, oh well, for a reason, I didn't grow up in the US, but lived there when I was a grown up, what good memory you guys have! I should learn some of these to teach my kids! Have a nice week Paula!

We are home safe & sound.
Dawn want's to come back. She has been having bloody noses. I think from the dry air.
I rember the rest of the "Spring time song" after Susans part it say's "We're not going hunting boy, we're going chasing women"

We did sing pretty loud. I was a little worried about Riff trying to watch TV in the living room. I think he whent to bed early that night!

What a wonderful visit with your sisters!

Oh I remember those songs so fondly. Right now I've got the theme song for The Greatest American Hero stuck in my head... Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free... Flying away on a wing and a prayer...

No special reason or nuttin'... just stuck in my head!

my five brothers and I always rode in the back of our pick up as well.
We often took neighbor kids. The favorite place to go was the A&W where they skated up to our pick up. They would play the songs of the day back in the late 50's-60's and we would sing as loud as we could in their parking lot!!!
I do remember Billy Don't be a hero and loved it!!
