Road Trip - Part 1

Snow was falling on our magical Christmas morning in Astoria. This is Riff packing the suburban for our road trip to Wyoming. He is decked out in his winter gear, wearing his pi****, well, I won't tell you what we call this hat. It's quite impolite. Here we go, are you ready?

There was a liitle bit of debris in the road...Oregon Highway 26 between Seaside and Portland was absolutely gorgeous. A Winter Wonderland though the highway resembles a small one lane country road right now.

HUH?! Mighty big car it would take to park in the designated area behind this snowdrift. Tickled my funny bone.

A tree laying across a powerline on Highway 26. Lots of tree's down, but this is the only powerline we saw that was effected.

Riff and Blackie romping in the snow at a rest area in the Columbia River Gorge.

OOPS! Somebody in the ditch. Took us just one second to decide to stop and help. Kevin hopped out, hooked up the towrope and after several tries, and me yelling' "Stop! We're sliding in too!", Riff got the right angle and pulled him out, back onto I-84 in the Columbia River Gorge.

On we went, down the slick icy road with a stop at the worst Burger King ever in Pasco for a gourmet Christmas dinner, then on through the now thick, pea-soup fog to Ritzville, Washington were we decided that was enought of the fog and it was time to sleep.

This morning it's still foggy, but it is at least light outside. Part 2 coming up. Spokane, Washingto to Cody, Wyoming....

oh my goodness. the roads really are terrible! i hope they're better the rest of the way. although it did snow here last night and just driving from my house to the babysitters and to work this morning was pretty rough. we have a new accounts lady that lives in meteetsee that stayed home today because of the roads. i hope it gets better.

I just marveled that you would make a road trip in those conditions. And spending Christmas Day driving. Well its an adventure.
Be safe,

I hope you got there safely. I worked Christmas Eve and we got here safely then got stuck in our subdivision as did 8 people yesterday. A bulldozer just came thru a more welcome sight I have seen in a while.lol.

I'm so glad you posted! I was wondering and hoping your trip was going good. When I saw all of our falling snow yesterday morning, I thought for sure you guys would go the next day.

I can't get over 26, and can see why it's been closed for so long. Can't wait for the next update, and I'm so excited that you'll be seeing Noah Bean soon!

DEFINITELY breakfast when you get back. Safe and happy travels! And I expect you to tell me what Riff calls that hat, too. xoxo, m

PS... it's raining here now, but it hasn't seemed to put a dent in the snowpack.

Oh my--you both are brave to venture out in that awesome snow!! I remember many travels like yours while living in NY, but we didn't have the hills and mountains that you do to make it even more interesting.

Safe travels and Happy Holidays!

Treacherous driving, but so beautiful to look at.
Glad you stopped to help. Nowadays so many will keep on driving.

We got Willie a hat like that for Christmas (You know they are all the rage)
The roads look pretty bad. Is Shilo driving too. I would be scared.
Hope to see you soon.

Wow! Such beauty! I miss the snow. Okay -- I miss looking at the snow. I do not, however, miss having to go to work after a snow. Waking up early to uncover and defrost the car... clearing pathways... shoveling the driveway... giving up and paying the neighbor to clear it out for us.... and the joys of melted snow puddles at the doorways.

Hmmm... there's t-shirt weather here in Georgia. I'm sticking to it.

Blessings!

Paula,

Our roads looked much the same last week. It rained a day or two before Christmas, but didn't melt all of the snow. We did have a white Christmas, but not quite that white. It rained cats and dogs yesterday and we have very little snow left. That means we have a place to put all of the January snow that we get. We had so much we were wondering where we were going to put any more.

Be safe, my friend. Very pretty photos. I'm looking forward to your next post.

Blessings,
Mary
