Doe, A Deer...

"A female deer. Ray- A drop of golden sun."
Deer are something we see here a lot. Drops of golden sun, not so much.

This beautiful fawn lives somewhere here in our neighborhood. Shilo spotted her when she was brand new and came home all excited because she'd seen the prettiest little fawn ever. I've seen her several times, but only from a distance, never able to get a picture of her. I was coming home from the grocery store the other day and there she was, having a snack by the side of the road. Of course I didn't have my camera with me so I screamed home, tore in the house and back down the road I went. She was still there and graciously agreed to pose for me before wandering off in search of rosebuds for dessert. She's this springs fawn and a precious tiny little thing. Don't know where her mama was. I do know that in old legends, she would be a sign of magic and blessings and I thank her for gracing our neighborhood with her beauty.
She can be seen here as the picture of the day!

May you all be blessed with a little bit of legendary magic...

Hi Paula -
She looks like a little sweetie! I've never seen a deer with her coloring but you sure can't mistake her in a crowd. Thanks for sharing her with us. My sweetheart will enjoy seeing her, too.

I've not seen a deer with that coloring. Could she be crossed with something? Either way, she's beautiful! And you were lucky she hung around just long enough...

Actually ... she wouldn't be taken as a sign/omen. For that, she would have to be totally white.

Unfortunately, deer that are partial albino ... while "cute" and eye catching ... are a sign of degraded genetics. They normally don't last long in the wild, because white doesn't blend in to most forests.

I've seen that animal, or it's twin, several times back up the hill from Smith Point.

I have never seen a deer marked that way before. Is it common where you live?

There are some piebald deer on an abandon military base near here, but, to the best of my recollection, those deer were all white.

I showed her to the other girls at work and one of them said "is that a real deer?" she thought maybe you had photoshopped her to look like that! I assured her that she's real and, according to shilo, she's lucky!

I have to agree with other commenters here about the different coloring of this deer. I've never seen one with markings like that before. But then too, I've never seen an albino deer yet either although about 20 years ago, when I was waitressing at a fairly large truckstop near here, some of the regular drivers had mentioned seeing an Albino stag, often standing by a particular little mountain peak along Interstate 80 near here and they said they had been seeing him off and on then for several years. Although I never heard of anyone getting an albino buck in deer season -and around here, if someone did get one then, you can bet your bottom dollar they'd have it pictured in the paper too as it would be a big event -so don't know if the buck the truckers had seen was killed or died or what happened to him. But then too, I haven't worked at that place, had contact with many drivers either after leaving there.

I agree that she would have to be all white to be considered a good omen, but she is beautiful and definitely unique. I have seen photos of albino deer but never one in real life. I have seen many does and bucks in this area but nothing quite so spectacular as the 14 point buck I saw one night on a dark, lonely road. He looked directly at me and it was the experience of a life time.

Enjoyed this post, Paula.

Blessings for a great week,
Mary
